uselessness commented on the word placeholder name
The Wikipedia page for this is entirely too fun to read (and rather informative too).

Ha! I remember reading this page when I was making my "Hold My Place" list. (I was far too pleased at myself for having come up with most of the words on the page before I read it.)

Wow, my new favorite Wikipedia page. For those who don't know that the 'wp' link up above is to Wikipedia, here's the link again.
Reesetee, be proud! I lerve that list of yours. Though on my browser, the quote in your description has a bunch of wonky characters in it.

Okay, so here's a crazy idea. Those abbreviated names can be a little tricksy... and I know Wordie's sort of anti-images... but what if instead of text links we had little graphics? Like the favicons from each site? And the full name of each site in the ALT text? Additionally, there are a lot of times I'd like to do a regular Google search on a word, not a Google Definition search. Just some ideas... :-)

I agree, tiny little images might be helpful. And I'm working on my text-only issue, I really am. I was doing so before I even read your comment, actually: check this out. Small images! It's like the noosphere in action, right here on Wordie.

*gasp*
That's it, I'm leaving Wordie forever.
Oh, what's with "john2"?

Oops--that's my test account. I register and then nuke it if I'm checking that registration is working, or something like that, which I did yesterday. Then forgot to log out.

Hey, thanks John! I didn't know you had such intense feelings for my placeholder name list. ;-) Oh, and I fixed those wonky characters, although I swear they weren't there when I first added it.
Teeny graphics! Ooooh, pretty! And uselessness, I don't think of Wordie as anti-images, but as pro-words. :-D

I like it. Pretty awesome how recent comments have become the staple of the home page, and recent words have been relegated to a little sidebar. :-) It's a small difference, but really help to emphasize the social aspect of the site.
My only suggestion would be to revisit the Wordie favicon. I'm quite sure better is possible (no offense).

No offense taken u, I agree, the first favicon attempt sucked. Just changed it -- this any better?

Much better, although I would suggest something that focuses on the "W" rather than the "E". There's an alliterative effect a favicon has at suggesting the name of the site it represents; the "ē" makes me think of web sites that start with that letter, like E*TRADE or eHarmony. :-)

I hear you, but every 'W' variation I tried looked too much like the Wikipedia favicon. Not like they have a trademark on the letter 'W', but I'd rather avoid confusion and try to find something distinctive. I feel like the diacritic over the 'e' has a Wordie feel. As does doing things backasswards :-)

The Wordie "W" is quite a bit different from the Wikipedia "W" because of a difference in font. Palatino Linotype is a pretty unique typestyle, in my mind different enough. I e-mailed you an image that is probably identical to the ones you tried. :-P But I think it's usable.
